This exquisite heritage box has been meticulously crafted from ancient English black Oak. Inside, the box is lined with sycamore with a matching, sycamore black Oak and suede tray. The tray, with 15 individual compartments of various sizes gently floats back into place within the box. There is a small space below the tray to accommodate extra pieces. The lid of the box opens to 95° and closes softly on a bed of air.
The box is French polished and finished with a final coat of beeswax.
Black Oak, often called bog Oak comes from ancient Oak trees which have been buried, often in marshy conditions, river beds or peat bogs and preserved from decay for hundreds or even thousands of years by the acidic and anaerobic conditions found there. Tannins in the oak react with dissolved iron in the water, slowly turning the wood brown and then black over millennia. This gives the wood a remarkable colour and story. This box is made from 5300 year old ancient black Oak
