This heritage jewellery box is handmade from American Black walnut with ancient black Oak detailing. It is lined with Sycamore, with a matching Sycamore and Walnut tray.
The Walnut sunburst jewellery box has a dramatic sunburst on the lid, which flows seamlessly down the sides both inside and out. This is framed on each corner with a delicate line of ancient English black Oak.
The box is lined with Sycamore and Walnut with a matching removable tray. The tray will float gently back into place and holds a smaller secondary tray within. The lid of the box opens to 95° and closes softly on a bed of air. The box has been French polished and finished with a final coat of beeswax.
What Is Black Oak
Black Oak, often called bog Oak comes from ancient Oak trees which have been buried, often in marshy conditions, river beds or peat bogs and preserved from decay for hundreds or even thousands of years by the acidic and anaerobic conditions found there. Tannins in the oak react with dissolved iron in the water, slowly turning the wood brown and then black over millennia.
